Powells dig ground from 845 Watson Natasha,
Pearl, and Rueben dig as Boone and Melita
supervise
5Rev Ter Maat adds soil from the community garden
on National symbolizing the neighborhood and
Westown Jubilee Housing
6Derrick Ledford, GVSU engineering student, adds
soil from the Kennedy Hall construction site.
7Rich Kogelschatz, owner of Heartland Builders,
adds salmon caught in Alaska as fertilizer
symbolizing his help on this project and Melita
and Boones first hope for a house when they
lived in Alaska.
8Mix well before planting
9Melita and Boone plant a lilac bush in the
combined and fertilized soil. The bush was later
planted in the front yard of the completed house.
