Etymology

• The Hebrew and Greek word most often translated
  as sin is chataah and harmatia meaning
  missing the mark as in an archery competition
• There are many other words used, but these are
  the most common

  maintain the teachers standards

• The patients health suffers and they face the
  consequences

exploitive relationships, loveless families,
crime, opression, etc.

• From birth we are influenced by the state of sin
  that exists in the world
• As we mature we make a conscious decision to
  accept and be a part of sin
• The meaning stories in Genesis teach us that we,
  not God, are responsible for evil
• We must take responsibility for the state we are
  in
• We must take responsibility for refusing to do
  Gods will (agape) and missing the mark

Conditions for Sin

• All 3 of the conditions must be present
• Sufficient knowledge or reflection
• Full consent of will
• Serious mattercauses real evil to myself of
  another person. Often gravity of the evil

Degrees of Sin

• Mortal a complete break in ones relationship
  with God
• Venial not a complete break from God, but
  represents a cooling in the relationship
• Social offend human dignity
