What is a Desert?

• A desert is a vast wasteland with little rainfall
  or vegetation and extreme temperatures.

Desert Producers

• As said before, there is not a lot of plant life
  in a desert. The only kind of plant that could
  survive in an arid, dry climate of a desert would
  be cacti, bushes, and shrubs.

Desert Consumers

• Like the producers, desert consumers have to have
  adaptations that let them survive without water
  for long periods of time. A camels hump, that is
  filled with unused fat, is an example. There are
  also snakes, lizards, beetles, small rodents,
  birds, and bats that inhabit the desert region.

Desert Locations

• There are deserts in almost every continent in
  the world including, North America, South
  America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Soil Type

• Because of its extreme heat and little rainfall,
  the soil is dry and infertile.

Temperature Ranges

• During the summer, it can get up to over a
  hundred degrees but at night it stays around
  forty-five.

Precipitation

• Because of their locations, most deserts get an
  average of only ten inches of rain per year.

Deserts in Danger

• Thanks to global warming, droughts are occurring
  more often, causing water holes to dry up.
• The increase in temperature may also cause more
  wildfires, altering the landscape.
• Pollution is another problem that will poison
  both the soil and the wildlife.

Helping the Biome

• We can help to prevent this by finding safer
  means of dumping chemical waste and use
  environmental safe cars and other mechanics.
