All the information you need to know to run for
an elected office

Application Components
Completed application form. Completed
answers, typed, in paragraph form. Completed
petition of 100 student names, grades 6-8.
Grade check form to be completed by each subject
area teacher. 3 letters of recommendation in
individual sealed envelopes. Two letters may be
from teachers, the third may be from an adult
outside your family. They must sign across the
seal of the envelope. All components paper
clipped together, and turned in to room 401 by
300pm on August 28. Note Incomplete
applications will not be considered in the
application process

studies, your elective, and the signatures of
each teacher. You may not have a GPA below a C
average in order to run for office.

Officer Descriptions

President
  • Must be an 8th grade student.
  • Duties include presiding over meetings, filling
    in for missing officers, organizing events,
    delegating jobs.
  • The president of the Student Government must be
    of high moral character, high academic standing,
    and a leader among peers. Organization,
    creativity, and a strong personality are a must.

Vice President
  • May be any incoming 7th or 8th grade student.
  • Duties include support of the president, filling
    in when the president is gone, helping plan
    events, filling in for missing officers, chairing
    committees

Secretary
  • May be any incoming 7th or 8th grade student.
  • Duties include taking minutes, taking attendance
    at meetings
  • and events, recording information, filing, and
    general
  • organizational duties.
  • Organization if EXTREMELY important in this
    office!

Treasurer
  • May be any incoming 7th or 8th grade student.
  • Duties include keeping an accurate and up to date
    ledger,
  • keeping track of all incoming and outgoing
    monies for
  • ALL student activities, checking account
    balances,
  • depositing money through the office.
  • Strong math skills are essential in this position!

Historian
  • May be any incoming 7th or 8th grade student.
  • Duties include documenting student government and
    school
  • events through photography or video,
    maintaining student
  • government scrapbook, putting together slide
    shows for spirit
  • days, submitting articles to the
    newspaper/newsletters.
  • Creativity and flexibility are essential.

Sergeant at Arms
  • May be any incoming 7th or 8th grade student.
  • Duties include keeping order at meetings and
    events,
  • helping other positions when needed.
  • A strong but fair personality is essential.

Election Propaganda
  • Election materials may be posted in the hallways.
  • Each candidate may have a maximum of 6 posters.
    Posters
  • MUST be approved by an advisor before placing
    on the walls.
  • Any other propaganda distributed to students
    should be given
  • on an equal basis. For example, you can not
    give a button to one
  • person and pass up the person next to them
    because you
  • dont like them.
  • Promises may not be made in order to gain votes.
    Being just,
  • honest, and equal are qualities of those on
    Cimarron Springs
  • Student Government.

Speeches
  • We will be videotaping speeches on Thursday,
    August 28 at
  • 315pm. They will be shown on Tuesday, September
    2nd .

Election Day
  • Only 6th ,7th and 8th grade students will be
    voting.
  • Voting will be done immediately following the
    election speeches
  • on secret ballot.
  • Winners will be notified by as soon as the
    results are in.
