  • A time for powdered wigs, make-up, fancy clothes
    and furniture

Doctrine of Affections
  • A document that said every form of art causes us
    to feel a single powerful emotion as a result of
    seeing or hearing a work.
  • All parts serve the bass line, meaning the bass
    line is the most important musical line in the
    piece.

Types of Music
  • We see a lot of church music
  • We also see dance music, like suites which have
    several movements for each type of dance (like
    allemande, a slow dance, or a gigue, a fast dance)

  • A concerto is a solo instrument/voice accompanied
    by a small ensemble

  • An oratorio is a choral work with an orchestra
    including soloists-it is similar to an opera

    heard, and is fought by a counter-subject, and
    calmed by another theme called an episode.

  • Wrote music and played organ for the church

  • Was a priest and worked for the church
  • Worked with young girls to get them out of
    orphanages
  • Wrote The Four Seasons string quartet

  • Started to study law, but ended up composing for
    the king
  • Composed Water Music for the festival on the
    River Thames.
  • Buried in Westminster Abbey
