Histology study of tissues

• Groups of cells similar in structure and function
• The four types of tissues
• Epithelial
• Connective
• Muscle
• Nerve

What is the function of each tissue type?

Epithelial Tissue cells packed close together
cells form continuous sheets

• Covers the body
• Lines parts of the body
• Ex lining of blood vessels, surface of lining
  of mouth and esophagus, skin (epidermis), lining
  of stomach, intestines, bladder trachea

Epithelial Tissue

• Supported by connective tissue
• Avascular but innervated contains no blood
  vessels but supplied by nerve fibers
• Regenerative rapidly replaces lost cells by
  cell division
