Title: Welcome 8/20/09 back to Physiology!
1Welcome 8/20/09 back to Physiology!
Pick up the handout. What is Histology? Do you
have a 3 ring binder?
Simple Squamous Epithelial tissue
2Agenda Learning Goals
- Agenda/Homework
- Physiology Notebook print guidelines from
website - Begin Histology look at websites to review
epithelial tissue
- Goals
- Recognize Epithelial tissue under the microscope
3Microscopic Study
- Cytology study of the cell
- Histology study of tissues
4Animal Cells Do you remember?
- Membrane
- ER
- Ribosomes
- Mitochondria
- Lysosomes
- Golgi apparatus
- Nucleus
- Nucleoli
5Human Cells
- Microscopic
- Diverse in size, shape and function
- What type of human cells can you name?
Red Blood Cell
Nerve Cell
6(No Transcript)
7Histology study of tissues
- Groups of cells similar in structure and function
- The four types of tissues
- Epithelial
- Connective
- Muscle
- Nerve
What is the function of each tissue type?
8Epithelial Tissue cells packed close together
cells form continuous sheets
- Covers the body
- Lines parts of the body
- Ex lining of blood vessels, surface of lining
of mouth and esophagus, skin (epidermis), lining
of stomach, intestines, bladder trachea
9Epithelial Tissue
- Supported by connective tissue
- Avascular but innervated contains no blood
vessels but supplied by nerve fibers - Regenerative rapidly replaces lost cells by
cell division
10Classification of Epithelia by shape
- Squamous, cuboidal, or columnar
