U.S. and Arab partners bomb ISIS in Syria
2
  • The United States and five Arab (Qatar, Bahrain,
Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UAE) nations rained
bombs on ISIS targets in Syria on Tuesday -- the
first U.S. military offensive in the war-torn
country and a forceful message to the militant
group that the U.S. would not stand by idly while
it carried out its rampage of terror. The
airstrikes focused on the city of Raqqa, the
declared capital of ISIS. The operation began
with a flurry of Tomahawk missiles launched from
the sea, followed by attacks from bomber and
fighter aircraft. The goal Taking out ISIS'
ability to command, train and resupply its
militants. The number of casualties was not
immediately clear. But U.S. Central Command said
the 14 strikes damaged or destroyed ISIS targets
    including fighters, training compounds,
    command-and-control facilities, a finance center
and supply trucks. While U.S. law enforcement is
aware the airstrikes against ISIS in Syria could
incite a response, there is no evidence to
suggest any terrorist strike is in the works
    against the United States.
  • MAVEN (the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution
craft) has arrived in Mars's orbit after
traveling 442 million miles in the course of 10
months to get there (Monday). It won't land on
the red planet but instead study Mars' atmosphere
from above to answer questions about its climate
change, NASA says. NASA's MAVEN will help
scientists figure out how ancient Mars changed so
dramatically into the planet we know today. It is
the first mission devoted to studying the upper
Martian atmosphere as a key to understanding the
history of Mars' climate, water and habitability.
"The evidence shows that the Mars atmosphere
today is a cold, dry environment, one where
liquid water really can't exist in a stable
state," said a NASA scientist. "But it also tells
us when we look at older surfaces, that the
ancient surfaces had liquid water flowing over
it. MAVEN is to study the top of the atmosphere
to determine the extent to which losing gas to
space might have been the driving mechanism
    behind climate change.

hayrides, a corn-husking contest, games for kids,
musical entertainment, puppet shows and many
    others. Additionally, there will be
