Title: Warm Up--Review

1
Warm Up--Review
  • Explain the difference between ACTIVE and PASSIVE
voice using the sentence frames below.
  • Passive voice occurs when ______________________.
In contrast, when a sentence uses the active
    voice___________________________________.

2
Review Passive Voice
  • Occurs when you make the object of an action (the
receiver of the action) into the subject of a
    sentence.
  • In other words, whoever or whatever is performing
the action is not the subject of the sentence.
  • Example Why was the road crossed by the
    chicken?
  • The subject of the example sentence abovethe
roadis the passive receiver of the action, not
    the subject performing the action.

3
Review Active Voice
  • When a verb is in the active voice, the subject
of the sentence is also the doer of the action.
  • Example Why did the chicken cross the road?
  • In this example, the subjectthe chickenis also
the doer or the thing performing the action. It
is NOT the passive receiver of the action.

incorrect match, that team must wait until all
other teams are reviewed in their respective

    lock in until absolutely sure)
