Transcript and Presenter's Notes

Title: MEDIA

1
Whether telling a story, choosing your outfit,
or sending a text
You are making a presentation
You choose how you want to dress, how you want to
tell your story, and how you act in front of
others.
Media is no different
Anyone who is trying to tell you something is
presenting that information their way FOR A
REASON.
Can anyone think of some reasons to present (or
misrepresent) information?
2
The point of view, or viewpoint, shows the
perspective of the author. To find it, ask
yourself these questions
- Who is creating this?
- Where do they come from?
- What do they know and think about the subject?
- What are their goals?
- What are their restrictions?
- Does their other work show any trend or bias?
3
  • It is important for presenters to pay attention
    to their audience.
  • Media outlets want to keep their viewers, so they
will usually meet their expectations and beliefs.
  • Example Would you ever see FOX news endorsing a
    health care bill?
  • Example Katy Perry song was removed from Sesame
    Street due to revealing clothing.
  • Example You are currently my audience, so I
should probably limit this to three examples

4
  • 1 The attitude toward the subject
  • 2 The attitude toward the audience
  • Tone can be affected by style, diction (word
    choice), mood, and other factors.
  • Remember, we discussed tone in those songs.
  • What is the tone of Sesame Street?
  • What is the tone of FOX News?
  • What is my tone?
  • I knew youd say that.

5
Aesthetics
  • Aesthetics is another word for beauty.
  • The aesthetic quality of a film can be affected
by camera angles, lighting, and unique shots.
  • Whats the best movie scene youve ever seen?
  • Did the scene contain any aesthetic techniques?
