Up Your Writing
2FACT 1 When you begin a sentence with a
prepositional phrase, you need to separate it
from the rest of the sentence with a
comma. Example During the storm, the family
hid in the root cellar. FACT 2 Sentences that
start with prepositional phrases are always
interesting. If you ever want to make the first
sentence in your story sound even better,
consider beginning it with a prepositional
phrase.Example "Toward the deafening sound
like thunder, ..."Under a piece of wood dropped
from a lumber truck, ..."On the highway between
the two towns, ..."Among the crowd of
on-lookers, ..."

need to know a couple of things. - You need to know the prepositions!Study your
prepositions handout often to commit the
prepositions to memory. - A prepositional phrase contains a preposition and
the object of the preposition. -
- Example Around the house
- Around is the preposition and house is the object
of the preposition. The object of the preposition
must be a noun or pronoun.
