6OBJECTIVES
- To investigate the biological characteristics of
different genetic forms, emphasizing the BG
recombinants most frequently detected in Galicia,
Spain.
- To define the association of these properties
with V3 loop sequence.
- To investigate the correlation between
biological characteristics of RF and the
evolution of the infection.

15Biological characteristics of HIV-1 primary
isolates of different genetic forms during the
evolution of the infection
16CONCLUSIONS
- A high frequency (72) of Non-B HIV-1 Primary
Isolates were RFs representative of the RFs
identified in Galicia - The Biological Phenotype of Non-B Subtypes and
Recombinants is linked to V3 Loop sequence, being
this correlation similar to that has been
described for subtype B strains. - Predicted Phenotype defined by Geno2pheno
bioinformatic program was in relation with
Biological Phenotype. -
17CONCLUSIONS
- Characteristic mutations at V3 loop of CRF14_BG
primary isolates have been described - Different substitutions and deletions, including
atypical changes at GPG motif of some URFs were
detected -
18CONCLUSIONS
-
- The Biological Phenotype of all BG Recombinants
(CRF14_BG and URFs) was SI/X4, independently of
the years of evolution of the infection. - The high frequency of SI/X4 phenotype among RFs
primary isolates, even at early stage of the
infection, emphasize the need for studying the
disease progression in these patients.
