WHAT IS TECH PREP?

• Tech Prep is an initiative under the
• Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education
  Improvement Act of 2006 for secondary students
  interested in pursuing technical fields of study
  Tech Prep is administered by the Technical
  Education Act (TEA) Texas Higher Education
  Coordinating Board (THECB) for approval.

PROCESS

• College faculty and high school teachers align
  high school course competencies to college level
  for each prospective high school course.
• Formal Articulation Agreements are formed and
  signed between the college and school districts.
• Tech Prep submits Articulation Agreements and 6
  years plans to T.E.A. and THECB for approval.
• Articulation Agreements are renewed every two
  years.

PROCEDURES FOR CREDIT

• After teachers notifies student is registered in
  a Tech prep class.
• The student must notifies high school counselor
  he/she wants to declare themselves as a Tech Prep
  student.
• Must enroll at Laredo community College, declare
  and Tech Prep major and report to Tech Prep
  office within 15 months upon high school
  graduation.
• Must make an average of 80 or above.
• Must complete six non-developmental college
  credit hours to receive credit.

  Application
• Mandatory Regional Tech Prep Student Tracking
  System for Articulated Courses.
• Teacher and students opens account. Student
  username and password is issued by the system
  with out Tech Prep office approval
• Teachers nee Tech Prep office approval for new
  accounts.
• Approved teachers open new classes for Tech Prep
  office approval.
• Students enroll in teachers articulated classes.
• Teachers approve student enrollment and
  recommendations for credit.
