1
NOGAPS Meeting
  • new CHEM2D O3 parameterization with temperature
    term now available
  • problems running reaD_noghist on hpc11 with t239
    output
  • NASA Project Columbia HPC proposals due 15 Jan
  • J.P. McCormack
  • Naval Research Laboratory, Washington DC, USA

2
New CHEM2D scheme for NOGAPS-ALPHA
  • Since CVS is down, you can get updated files via
    thresher/home/mccormack/nogaps/nogaps_chem2d_v1.0
    .tar
  • put chem2d_coeff_v1.0.dat in your climdir
    contains 3 terms (P-L), d(P-L)/dr, and d(P-L)/dT
  • when o3scheme1.0 in jobscript, diabat.f calls
chem2d.f to read in chem2d coeffs and interpolate
  • diabat.f calls cariolle.f to get climo temps
(aka CD86 coeff 5), then calls o3_chem2dnew.f to
    update o3t
  • Do we want to use CIRA/URAP temps instead of
CD86 temps? What are good ways to test the new
    temp term?

3
Including temp. coeff changes O3 mr at 10 hPa by
at most 10 for this January case.

HPC Issue 1read_noghist for T239 on hpc11
  • Currently cant run read_noghist spectral history
file inverter on t239 output on hpc11. Problem
seems to arise at/near call to transr.f ? SCSL
    library routine.
  • Can run read_noghist on hpc11 using t79 output.
    ? Memory problem?
  • We cant run any read_hoghist jobs in HPC queue.
Must run interactively. Default memory allocation
on ruby is MUCH bigger than on hpc11. Havent
been able to increase this with limit command.
  • We should probably figure out how to run these
jobs in the queue somehow. In the meantime, will
experiment further with compiler options and
libraries, then ask MSRC for help.

HPC Issue 2NASA Project Columbia
  • Do we want to apply for HPC hours through this?
    Deadline is 14 Jan 2005.
  • Project Columbia has 20 512 processor (Intel
Itanium 2) SGI Altix with 440 TB storage.
  • Awards are for NASA projects funded through
    Science Mission Directorate (NOGAPS-ALPHA Aura
    validation, GW investigations?)
  • Proposal cover sheet, abstract, computing
requirements (processor hours, memory, etc), and
3-page tech proposal required. Also need program
    managers signature (?).
  • Like DoD HPC, one person acts as PI, and if
approved all additional accounts are obtained via
    request forms through PI.
