7Mount Etna This is the largest active volcano in
Europe. It is possible to visit the main crater
by taking a cable car and then a jeep. Groups
meet up with a mountain guide from the Alpine
Club of Sicily for a half an hour walk to the
crater. Also visit Silvestri Crater, a classic
example of an Etnean fissure with eruptive cones
due to frequent eruptions on what is considered
the south rift zone of the volcano.
8- Excursions - Taormina Town
One of the first Sicilian cities to support
Rome during the Punic Wars. Beautiful by day but
in the evenings its atmosphere is simply
enchanting, where you can stroll the illuminated
streets and see the nocturnal fires of Mount
Etna. The most famous is the view
overlooking the Greco-Roman amphitheatre, one of
Sicilys largest, with Mount Etna and the sea
in the background.

- Located on a plateau overlooking
- Sicilys southern coast, Agrigento
- was founded as Akragas around
- 582 BC by a group of colonists from
- Gela.
- Includes an archaeological
- museum and the Temples Valley
- which includes the temples of Hera,
- Concordia, Hercules, Zeus, Castor
- and Pollux.

- The site of this important
- Siceliot (Sicilian-Greek)
- city of antiquity bears the
- ruins of an acropolis and
- Numerous temples.
- Founded by Doric Greek
- colonists from Sicilys
- Megara Hyblea between
- 650 and 630 BC.

- Including the Church of San Giovanni
- degli Eremiti,the Palatine Chapel in the
- Palazzo dei Normanni, Moreale
- Cathedral and the Benedictine cloister
- with a panoramic view of the ancient
