A Letter from the President
Thanksgiving is almost here and the official
kickoff of the Holiday season begins! It is a
time when we should take a few minutes to reflect
and remember our family, friendships,
accomplishments, successes and gratitude. I
recently read an article and it said Most of
what we need to gain peace and happiness lies
within. If we have food and clothing, shelter
and a community, we can survive physically.
Emotional survival, prospering by feeling that
our lives are wonderful gifts, depends on our
ability to appreciate the beauty of nature, the
gratuity of friends and the marvels of our own
spirit.   CTAM Texas has had an amazing year.
We have so much to be thankful for and a lot of
people to thank. Thank You to our members, those
who have been with us for so long and those who
have recently joined. Your support is what
enables us to continue our programs and outreach
within the state. Thank You to our wonderful
Board of Directors who give so much of their time
and financial support to continue building our
chapter into one of the best in the country.
Thank You to our vendor companies and partners
who contribute their resources and time to help
us on a moments notice throughout the year.
One of the most exciting accomplishments of
the year was the recent announcement of our
chapter winning the CTAM National Growth Award
for 2004! We were recognized recently in
Washington D.C. in front of our peers and the
National CTAM Board of Directors. This is an
outstanding recognition of teamwork and a
testament to the strength of our chapter.
Congratulations!   Lastly, please join CTAM Texas
and WICT for our annual Holiday party on
Thursday, December 16th at the Wyndham Anatole
Hotel. It will be a fun evening and a great way
to network with friends. On behalf of our Board
of Directors, we wish everyone Happy Holidays and
a Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing and
working with you in 2005   Kim Francis

3rd Annual CTAM Texas Chili Cook-Off
CTAM of Texas Quarterly
Once again, the heavens threatened to open up and
rain on the CTAM Texas Chili Cook Off parade.
And once again, we were fortunate to have the
forecast be in error. We suffered some of that
legendary hot Texas humidity but remained
dry.   The 3rd Annual CTAM Chili Cook Off headed
south down I-35 to the Austin, Texas the live
music capital of the world. We were fortunate to
have a venue that was built to accommodate a
chili cook off. We had a large grassy area with
electricity for the first time in the history of
the event. The electricity resulted in event
improvements such as pina coloda machines from
the Gilligans Island crew, ritas from HBO, live
music played at the Chillie Nelson booth and the
constant spinning of food processors to make
custom accompaniments at the Univision Burning
Uranus booth.   For our third annual TX CTAM
Chili Cook Off in Austin, TX, we had 18 teams
cooking and 40 individuals that filled the venue.
All had a wonderful time fraternizing with
fellow industry cohorts over fiery chili and
Texas beverages, all to benefit the Meals on
Wheels of Austin. The CTAM Texas chapter gained
approximately 65 new members at this event.   The
teams were decked out in marvelous themes and the
air was thick with fierce cook off competition
and smack talking. The many wonderfully costumed
teams dictated two tiers of judging. Judges for
the best and most unusual chili were TCTA
President Amanda Batson, TWC President Tom
Kinney, Grande Communications EVP Retail
Operations Scott Ferguson and an executive
representative from Meals on Wheels. The
Peoples Choice Awards were an additional 2
awards.   The event was supported by many
sponsors. Team Sponsors are listed on the
attached summary. Other sponsors include Turner
Network Sales (koozies), E! and style (stadium
cups), Food Network (ice cream), NBC Cable
Networks (beverages), Hi Image Graphics
(signage), Tennis Channel (Recovery Station)   We
were very fortunate to be entertained by The
Wonders, a hot Dallas band who recently played
with the Pointer Sisters at the Republican
National Convention, and opened for Willie Nelson
at the Texas Cattlebaron's Ball. The band was
sponsored by Discovery Networks, GAC, MTV
Networks and AMC Networks.   All in all, CTAM TX
will make donation to the Meals on Wheels of
Austin estimated to be approximately 2,000.
CTAM TX is thrilled with the success of this
event made possible by the teams of programmers
and operators that put their hearts and souls
into cooking and competing with outrageous
booths.

CTAM Texas Chapter Honored With National Award
  • For the second time in three years, CTAM Texas
was one of four chapters honored nationally at
the recent Chapter Recognition Awards held in
Washington D.C.. On November 9, the chapter was
awarded the 2004 Chapter Growth Award for
exceptional outreach strategies employed to grow
and expand chapter membership by 40 throughout
    this year.
  •
  • The Chapter took a three-pronged approach to
meeting our goals of not just expanding
membership but reaching out to cities and
members outside of the Chapters Dallas home
  • Have a Cup of Joe on CTAM Texas this
membership incentive awarded a 10 Starbucks card
to new members who signed up during the incentive
    period
  • CTAM Texas Chili Cookoff membership bonus and
outreach - this third annual event was moved from
Dallas to Austin this year and 5 CTAM Texas
memberships were offered to each cookoff team
    that registered.
  • CTAM Texas Teleseminar Events the chapter
secured four locations outside of Dallas to watch
the national CTAM teleseminar this year.
  •
  • Many thanks to those current chapter members who
worked hard to execute these initiatives, and a
warm welcome and thanks to all of you who became
members through these efforts as well!
