Ms. Reeds Class For the
week of April 14-18, 2008
Language Arts Focus
At the ABC station, we worked together on
another Guided reading book. I am finding that
most of these children are VERY good at sounding
out those little words, if they take the time to
make the sounds and put them together. Please
encourage your child to use those skills they
have, and not just guess at a word when they
look at the first letter. I always tell them to
use your sounds. We also worked on putting
names into alphabetical order lists. In
anticipation of the upcoming trip, we listened to
stories from a book in the Frog and Toad
series. These were the characters in the play we
saw at the Childrens Museum. We also read about
Bucky the Dinosaur. This was a true story of
how and where the bones were uncovered that make
up one of the skeletons housed at our Museum. We
also read about how glass is made and then blown
into shapes like those created by Dale Chihuly in
the Fireworks of Glass exhibit at our Museum.

review all 54 words that we know
We worked again with basic coins. Put out a
penny, nickel, dime and quarter, and see if your
child can name them correctly and tell the
values. Using dominoes, we introduced doubles
and worked with matching equivalent sets. See
if your child can explain those new terms to you!

Calendar Notes
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! to all parents and
grandparents who went along on our field trip to
the Museum We had a glorious day! The weather
was beautiful and we got to see SO much! New
photos will be posted to the Kodak
Gallery! ADVANCE Notice Track Meet (Field Day)
on Friday, May 23. This day consists of 7
outdoor stations that all the classes will be
rotating through. Plan to come and watch!? There
will be relay races, tug of war, obstacle
courses, and the mini box-car race. To
participate in this box car race, your child
needs to build (create) a car from a large box
that can slip over their head and that they can
easily carry as they run around the track. You
can paint these, decorate them, add cardboard
wheels, etc. Start looking for your box now-
the smaller size cars always win!!
Friday April 25 - NO School- Staff Development
Day Registration for next years kindergarten
continues here through the month of April. We
REALLY need an accurate idea of how many students
will be attending each of the 3 schools next
year. If you know of neighbors with children who
will be 5 years old by August 1st, please get the
word out to them. THANKS!
