3
Who is he ?
  • Blaise Pascal was born in 1623 and died in 1662.
  • Pascal was French he lived in Clermont and he
    died in Paris.
  • He was a famous mathematician.

4
What He Did
  • Blaise Pascal wrote a paper on conic sections.
This won him the respect of the mathematicians of
    Paris award.
  • At the age of 19 he invented the worlds first
calculator. Pascal also discovered the properties
of cycloid. He also contributed to the advance of
    the differential calculus.

5
The World First Calculator
  • The Calculator is called the pascalina or the
arithmetique. He began work on his calculator in
1742 when he was 19 by 1752 Pascal had produced
50 prototypes and sold a dozen machines.

6
Pascals Triangle
  • The triangle is made by arranging numbers.
  • Each number in the triangle is the sum of the
pair of numbers directly above it (to the above
    left and above right).

7
Pascals Triangle (2)
  • Pascal's Triangle can be used to easily work out
the number of permutations for a given number of
    numbers eg lottery numbers

8
Properties of Cycloid
  • There is many properties of the cycloid in fact
there is too many to write down so we will only
give you a few. Firstly a cycloid is a line
generated by a point on a circle rolling along a
    straight line.
