1- Developing participative management for the Rhine
The The RhineNet is an European project within
the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The RhineNet goes back to an initiative of
Solidarity Water Europe (SWE) and constitutes a
partnership of 13 partners from Germany, France,
Luxemburg and the Netherlands. Lead partner is
the Naturlandstiftung Saar. Its members are state
authorities (local and regional level), private
institutes and non governmental organisations.
- Objectives of the RhineNet
- Development of tools for the implementation of
the European Water Framework Directive (WFD)
concerning Public Participation (PP) within the
transboundary Rhine basin - Identification and development of lasting
practices in water management which have as a
goal the enforcement and development of the Rhine
habitat towards a good ecological quality while
considering citizen interests. - Promotion of international cooperation between
citizens, institutions, authorities and
municipalities and the dissemination of know how

Information sessions on the WFD for stakeholders
Training course on Public participation for
stakeholders
Development of role games the WFD Game for
farmers and concerning the classification of
wetlands
A guidance document on PP for stakeholders on a
regional and local level
Conducting of case studies in order to test in
real life situation the implementation of the WFD
concerning PP
- Activities to involve the broad public and to
raise awareness - RIFM a poetry and art contest for young people
- International Rhine bathing day to get the people
back in touch with their rivers
