SMART Goal

• On the grade 4 CMT 40 of students will score
  proficient or higher in the area of making
  reader/text connections
• Goal was identified through analysis of last
  years third grade performance on CMT

Students Will Need to Know and Be Able To

• Make connections between text and their own
  experiences and knowledge
• Select synthesize and use information from what
  they have read to write a personal response.

What the students will be doing-Performance Tasks

• Practice reading comprehension questions in the
  CMT format containing a variety of genres, scored
  using the CMT reading comprehension rubric.
• Weekly practice in written response to literature

What the teachers will be doing- Instructional
Strategies

• Model response to reader/text connection
  questions
• Provide written and oral feedback to students.
  Engage students in discourse about his/her
  response.
• Use QAR questioning format

Progress toward Goal

• Students are making connections in their
  independent reading, literature circles and read
  alouds.
• 64 of students demonstrated growth in reading
  comprehension as measured by student performance
  between the fall and winter administration of the
  DRA.
