  • Prisoner-of-war camps
  • Each camp had at least one thing in common all
    living conditions were brutal!

4
Living Conditions
  • If you were not able to do hard labor you were
    killed.
  • All belongings were taking and they had to wear
    old rag like clothing
  • Most Jews had to sleep with three other people.
In a twin size bunk bed.
  • Most Jews died because there was not a lot of
    food to go around.
  • Other died because of sickness because they
couldnt bath and were very cold.
  • If you finally got food it would be a half a
loaf and most the time people would steal it.
  • Each prisoner was put into categorizes they
would label them with a certain color star
depending on what race they were.
  • Only had one bathroom for one hundred people.

5
First camps
  • The first Nazi concentration camps opened in
march 1933. at first only known opponents of the
Nazis would go in, but gradually a more diverse
group was imprisoned for making harsh remarks
about the Nazis. Years later six death camps
    started being constructed in Poland.

6
Death camps
  • By the time Hitler ordered a halt to the shooting
in the fall of 1942 they had murdered
approximately 1,500,000 Jews. The death camps
proved to be a faster, better, and less personal
method for killing Jews, one that would spare the
shooters, not the victims, emotional anguish.
Which led to making more death camps.

7
How they died
  • Gas chambers
  • Weapons such as guns
  • Diseases spread throughout the camp, such as
    typhus.
  • Starvation
  • Suicide
  • By the end of the war, to save money by not using
the gas chambers, they usually threw them into an
    oven or a burning pit.

8
  • The Nazis were responsible for killing 2.7
million Jews just in the death camps alone.
