Increased Productivity Will Make LGE More
Competitive
We need to do something about high labor
costs. We need to double our productivity to
compete in the global market. This means
improving our cost structure compared to
competitors. The way to do this is to
continuously work towards decreasing the number
of people we need on each production line and
then place those new people into new factories,
thus increasing overall productivity. We can
improve our competitiveness even as we increase
pay per person if productivity increases more.

Change Challenge
Waste Elimination Boosts Individual Value
Proposition
A
s employees become specialists in their work
through earning star marks, they will gain a
sense of pride from being part of a world-class
organization of specialists. At the same time,
leaders in the company must change the HR system
so that credit is given to those with great
performance, and compensation is directly linked
to that performance. Then LGE will become a
company that can maximize market value of
employees by quickly realizing individual growth.
Management will be able to realize dramatic
growth for the company in the quickest possible
way because of the great individual value of
employees. This will all result in an LGE in
which people are seen as the top asset. In
regards to this individual value proposition, the
CEO has said, I hope word
spreads to all parts of the world that to find
the best global talent, one should go check out
LG Electronics. Value creation through waste
elimination is the foundation on which these
changes will occur.

DM Company Open Communication with Pizza!
M
embers of the DM company who work in the HQ
office in Seoul were surprised on April 24 when
their company president, B.B. Hwang, showed up
with drinks and pizza at 830 p.m. He wanted to
say thank you for their efforts, because
employees often stay late in order to
communicate with subsidiaries located throughout
the world. The DM President recently conducted
Open Communication through innovative methods
like the Surprise Pizza Party. During the
event, Mr. Hwang met and talked with employees
and addressed their concerns about staying late
at work. He said,
15,000 !
Lets make a culture of going home on time. I
want all executives and group leaders to leave on
time to set an example for the rest of the
employees. Open Communication can take many
different forms and if operated through
innovative methods, as shown in the DM Company,
it can greatly increase morale as well as
improve communication.
