SUMMARY
  • AMS configuration, weight status an schedule (M.
    Molina)
  • Summary of ongoing/ completed tests  (G. Ambrosi)
  • LSS studies (W.Du / ZC Zhao)
  • STA status (mechanical parts production and
    radiators design) (X. Zhu/ G. Xin)
  • TTCS status (J. v Es / ZC Huang / Z. He)

Recent TWG activities
  • Thermal chamber inspection at Terni with NSPO
(with Dr. J.R. Tsai and Dr. S. Chen) 6 February
    2006
  • Crates, XPD, star tracker, thermal tests
    supervision
  • Investigation meeting at SYSU about TTCS EM
    testing 20-23 March 2006
  • C. Vettore, A. Pauw, A. Alvino
  • AMS Thermal modelling
  • On ISS, in LSS

Pre-survey comparison
  • Pre-survey (16 cases) has been done to compare
    version 4.0 with version 3.3
  • Results for Upper and Lower Trunnion bridges and
    for Vacuum Case are shown

10
Upper trunnion bridge temperature differences
11
Lower trunnion bridge temperature differences
12
VC average weighed temperature differences
13
Vacuum case
  • In the hottest cases the average temperature
    increases from 21C to 22C
  • In the coldest cases the average temperature
    increases from 25C to 24C
  • A long time transient needs to be run to assess
    the average-over-mission behaviour

14
Long-time transients RESULTS
15
Survey status (196 cases)
  • 60 completed

16
Mass budget
  • Target mass for the TCS 274 Kg
  • We anticipated 19 Kg saving only 15 Kg possible
  • TTCS condenser not feasible
  • Further MLI weight breakdown refinement
  • Wake radiator and PDS baseplate redesign expected
    for June 2006

17
Mass saving continuing effort
  • Integrated analysis (survey)
  • ONGOING
  • Deatiled design of MLI
  • ONGOING AT NASA FOR NASA BLANKETS, ON HOLD FOR
    THE OTHERS
  • Precise determination of TTCS weight saving
  • CLOSED -8.2 Kg
  • Decision pending 1.7 Kg inserts in TRD honeycomb
    panel for zenith radiator fixation

Lower TOF Thermal Test
20
TV/TB test scope
  • To demonstrate the ability of equipment to
    operate when
  • exposed to extreme operational temperatures
  • after being exposed to extreme non-operational in
    vacuum environment.
  • To test the thermal design in hot and cold
    conditions
  • To verify the heater power budget and the
    thermostats performances
  • To define the minimum environmental temperature
that the non operative TOF can experience
  • To validate the thermal math model (TMM and GMM)

21
Temperature measurement point
  • Temperature reference point inside the box at
    PMT level
  • Temperature control points outside the box on
the TOF carbon fiber outer surface

22
PMT tv test (done by INFN-BO)
23
thermal test profile

24
TOF temperature levels
  • Aging issue
  • Quantitative assessment about PMTs aging (vs.
temperature) from the supplier is missing
  • Test levels agreed by TOF team
  • TOF team recommends to limit as much as possible
PMT working at the maximum temperature.
  • Decision to be made
  • all-test-long TOF is powered ON
  • OR
  • TOF is powered ON at max temp for minimum
    duration which allows functional tests

25
Analysis results along beta range
