• 206 bones in the human body as adults
• Over 300 when born. Then they fuse together.
• Made of different types of tissue
• Bone two types
• Compact Hard outer layer
• Spongy Porous inner portion
• Cartilage
• Ligaments Connect bone to bone
• Sprain Stretching or tearing of a ligament

• Axial Skeleton
• Consists of the Skull, Vertebral column, and Rib
  Cage
• 86 total bones
• Appendicular Skeleton
• Consists of the arms, legs, shoulder and pelvic
  girdle.
• 120 total bones

Parts of a Bone

• Periosteum Dense white covering
• Osteoblasts Responsible for forming new bone
  cells
• Osteo means bone
• Osteoclasts - Remove damaged bone tissue
• Oscteocytes Maintain cellular activities of the
  bone
• Yellow bone marrow Mainly fat
• Red Bone Marrow Produces blood cells
• Haversian Canals Contain nerve and blood
  vessels
• Diaphysis Shaft of the bone
• Epiphysis Ends of the bone
