WHAT IS TITLE 1?
  • Its the largest federal assistance program for
    our nations schools.
  • The goal of Title 1 is a high-quality education
    for every child, so the program provides
    supplemental resources to local school district
    to help students who need it the most. These are
    children who are the furthest from meeting the
    standards the state has set for all children.

HOW DOES TITLE 1 WORK?
  • The Federal Government provides funding to states
    each year. To receive the funds each state must
    submit a plan describing
  • What all students are expected to know and be
    able to do
  • The high-quality standards of performance that
    all children are expected to meet.
  • Ways to measure progress
  • TEA sends the money to school districts based on
    the enrollment of low-income families
  • The local school district identifies eligible
    schools and provides Title 1 resources.

THE TITLE 1 SCHOOL
  • Works to
  • Identify students most in need of educational
    help (students do not have to meet income
    standards to qualify)
  • Set goals for improvement
  • Measure student progress using standards set
    forth in the states Title 1 plan
  • Develop programs that add to regular classroom
    instruction
  • Involve parents in all aspects of the program.

SERVICE CRITERIA
  • SCHOOLWIDE PROGRAMS
  • Schools with 40 or more of children from
    low-income families can develop school wide
    programs for all students
  • TARGETED ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
  • Any campus where at least 35 of the students are
    from low income families.
  • Students qualify for service based on test scores
  • Students with the greatest needs will be given
    priority.

  • As part of the compliance requirements for Title
    1
  • Is sent home every year
  • States both the goals and responsibilities of
    both parents and schools
  • You influence your childs education more than
    any one else. Your involvement can boost your
    childs achievement. By taking an active role in
    Title 1, you will show your child
  • How important he/she is to you
  • How important education is to you
  • That you and the school are a team
  • Both the district and campus parental involvement
    policy helps parents understand and take part in
    the schools efforts.
