Title: RAMP Status Report

1
RAMP Status Report
2
RAMP Overview
  • Receiver-initiated, mesh-based multicast routing
protocol for wireless ad hoc networks
  • A core is elected per connected component to
announce its address as the location of a
    multicast group
  • Core announcement diffused periodically in the ad
    hoc network
  • Receivers requiring to join the group transmit
join announcements to their next hops towards the
core based on the information they obtain in core
    annoucements

3
RAMP Overview
  • Nodes overhearing join announcements from
multiple neighbors join the group silently.
  • Loop-free packet forwarding obtained by
intelligent flooding of multicast data packets
within the mesh by members and silent members

4
RAMP Features
  • Does not need an underlying unicast routing
    protocol
  • Does not need per source flooding of control
    packets
  • RAMP more effective than ODMRP and MAODV for a
wide range of scenarios of varying mobility,
group members, number of senders, and traffic
load based on simulations in Qualnet 3.1

RAMP progress till now
  • A paper titled Receiver Assisted Mesh Protocol
(RAMP) submitted to Mobicom 2003. Paper
    available online at http//www.cse.ucsc.edu/ra
    vindra/ramp_mobicom.pdf
  • Code developed and tested for a Linux
implementation of RAMP. Complete source code and
instructions for building and using the code
    available at http//www.cse.ucsc.edu/ravindra/r
    amp_linux.html

6
RAMP work in progress
  • Generation of a detailed code description
document of the Linux code for RAMP. Expected
    date of completion 5/23/2003
  • Integrating the Linux code of RAMP with mrouted,
and supporting multiple interfaces. Expected date
    of completion 5/29/2003
