Hello My name is Lady Katherine (my friends call
me Katie) I am a Congo African Grey Parrot. I am
one year old. I would like to tell you the story
of my First outing with my beautiful red harness.

Pay attention now because I am going to tell you
some important information and I know your parrot
would like to go on outings, safe on their very
own harness.

Look here it is This is my safety hook to Mom.
Note to parrots. You are not supposed to chew
the hook..

Just pick up my leash,
And lets go outside.

What a big world out here. I am at the beach
right behind our motor home.

The directions say to bring a distraction, in
case I get a little bit nervous. Mom brought me a
fresh green pea pod. I am not nervous, but I want
my pea. ?

Fright means flight!
Katie is following what her natural instincts
tell her to do.
No matter how well trained you think your parrot
is, if something suddenly happens to startle
him/her this is what will happen.

Whew, Daddy has me safe. He let my leash slip
through his fingers and lowered me to the
ground. Imagine, what would have happened if I
did not have my harness.

Mommy snuggled me close for a long time. She said
she was so scared when she saw me fly.

I went for a walk. Can you guess where I went?

Did you guess Ice cream parlour? Thats where I
went. I had an Ice cream cone (cone only) all
the people told me I am such a pretty girl. ?

And I got a take out to take back to the motor
home with me. But, I am not spoiled you know
?

Now I would like to show you the easy way to put
a harness on your parrot. My harness is a Kaylor
harness.
It is easiest if you let us perch on the back of
a chair rather than a table or your lap. You
can see I am getting it ready for Mom.

Lay the harness out like this. I would be
standing at the point at the top of the picture.

Gently place the loop over my head and then

Pull the strap on the right without the buckle
under the right wing.
Repeat on the left with the buckle side.

Put non buckle tab through loop on back tab.
Fasten the buckle securely.Fasten so harness is
snug but leave one finger width between tummy
and harness.

Snap on the leash, Step up Katie.
Now you are ready to go anywhere, anytime knowing
your bird is safe.

One thing I did notice is that the strap around
your wrist is loose.Thinking back to the picture
where Katie flew it could have so easily come
off. For extra safety I wound an elastic
band around it, pushing it up so the loop is
secure around my wrist.
