Welcome to COMM 109
  • COMM 109 is is an introductory communication
    course at UNL and is housed in the Department of
    Communication Studies. This course is taught
    using a modified Keller Plan system called the
    Personalized System of Instruction (PSI).

Content of the Class
  • The focus of this course is human communication.
    Most people think that this means public
    speaking, however this is only one component of
    the class. COMM 109 actually covers many contexts
    of human communication.

Public Speaking Portion
  • Giving speeches is only a small part of human
    communication therefore is not the only focus
    in 109.
  • Speeches only count for 11 of your final grade.

    the Course Syllabus Study Guide.
  • (p. 1-17)
  • Bring your Course Syllabus and Study Guide to
    every class period.
  • Record your communication studies number (CS) in
    your study guide.

  • If you want an override here is what you need to
    do
  • Give your name to your Supervisory Instructor
  • Attend class Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • Talk to your Supervisory Instructor on Friday to
    see if you were given an override.
  • Unfortunately, following these procedures does
    not guarantee an override.

  • Do NOT miss class!!
  • The points you receive for attending are
    mandatory for your grade. You must attend these
    first sessions to understand how this system
    works. Students who miss one of the first three
    days of class may be asked to withdraw from the
    course.
