Introduction
.
Thank you for your interest in working for Cirque
Du Soleil. Start People is very exited to be
chosen by this amazing company. Quidam in
Brussels is the very first collaboration of
Cirque Du Soleil and Start People Belgium and the
start of a long time partnership. This project
can only be successful with the help of motivated
and skilled temporary workers. In Cirque Du
Soleil we call them Cirquadors. You become a
performer off stage. Cirquadors and the artists
are the only interaction with the audience. You
are also an ambassador for your city and country
in the world of Cirque. It will be a lot of hard
work and loads of fun. Take part in this
unforgettable experience. The Start People

1. About Cirque Du Soleil
Cirque Du Soleil started in 1984 in Quebec City,
Canada and hasnt stopped since. The company is
now based in Montreal and has traveling shows and
resident shows all over the world. They employ
about 4000 people including 1000 artists. Visit

2. About Quidam
Quidam a nameless passer-by, a solitary figure
lingering on a street corner, a person rushing
past. It could be anyone, anybody. Someone
coming, going, living in our anonymous society. A
member of the crowd, one of the silent majority.
The one who cries out, sings and dreams within us
all. This is the "quidam" that Cirque du Soleil
is celebrating.
  • Quidam will be performed at Brussels Cart Expo
    from 30 October till 21 December 2008.
  • There are 1 or 2 performances a day, from Tuesday
    till Sunday.
  • Each performance takes 2,5 hours, including a 30
    minute intermission.
  • The show is large scale theater production
    assembling 10 acts and live music.
  • The cast has about 150 people and will be
    supported by over 200 local temporary
    Cirquadors.

3. On Site
  • Cirque Du Soleil will build all facilities needed
    for the large scale production at the Brussels
    Cart Expo. In the Center is a complex of tents
    which holds the Grand Chapiteau.

4. Cirquadors
Start People is recruiting over 200 local
temporary workers, called Cirquadors, for
public positions or to work behind the scenes.
  • Requirements
  • Be available from 27 October till 21 December
  • (except for holiday workers, see next slide)
  • Willing to work weekends
  • Be flexible weekly schedules with day and
    evening shifts
  • Responsible for own transportation
  • Be in good physical condition
  • Have a basic knowledge of English
  • A Cirquador
  • Has a positive attitude, and is open minded
  • Is motivated and takes pride in his job
  • Is punctual
  • Is a team player
  • Is responsible and can work with little or no
    supervision
  • Can follow instructions
  • Can work under pressure
  • Has an interest in arts

5. Students
As a full-time student you can work as a
work-student or a holiday-worker. If you are a
student your Start People Office can inform you
in detail about de differences and help you with
deciding what works best for you.

  • Holiday-worker (jobstudent/jobist(e))
  • Allowed to work 23 days in July, August
    September 23 days in the other 9 months of the
    calendar year. Check how many days you have left
    to work for Cirque Du Soleil!
  • You pay only 4,5 social security during the
    Cirque Du Soleil period
  • Start People will recruit Holiday Workers who can
    work a minimum of 20 days during the entire
    period.
  • Work-Student (werkstudent/non-jobist(e))
  • No restriction in number of days you work or
    number of hours per day
  • You pay social security like an employee (13,07)
  • You get a holiday-pay per hour
  • Start People will recruit work-students for
    Cirque Du Soleil who are available for the entire
    period of the stay.

6. Job Descriptions
Stage hands You help building up the tent and
other facilities on the site during 5 days
before the premiere and tearing it down during
3 days after the last show. You are a team
player and able to do heavy labor. Runners You
run errands for the production staff. You know
the city really well and have a drivers
license. Costume dressers Your main duty is
washing and maintaining the show costumes. You
pre-set the show and help dressing the
artists. Experience in big a scale production
is an asset. Box office clerk You sell
tickets at the box office. You are customer
oriented and work very precise and
organized. Ushers You help seating the
customers control the crowd during the show. You
are very customer oriented and work well under
pressure. Merchandising representatives You
assist customers with buying merchandise and keep
the shopping area neat and clean. You can
handle cash and credit cards.

Food Beverages representative You serve drinks
and snacks at the counters during intermission.
You replenish the stock and keep the FB-area
clean. VIP representatives You meet and greet
VIP guests and give them directions and customer
service. Receptionist You are the First
point of contact in the production office. You
answer phone calls, assist the office staff and
help the cast members. You have administrative
tasks. Kitchen chef You make meals for the
cast members and lead the kitchen team. You can
manage the cost control and stock. Dining room
attendants You make coffee, sell meals to the
temporary staff and keep the restaurant clean.
You help in the kitchen and washing
dishes. Dishwasher You wash the dishes by
machine manually, and help cleaning the
kitchen. Salad bar prep cook You do basic
kitchen work cutting vegetables fruit, make
salads, cleaning. You help washing dishes.

7. Get Involved
Job interview Every candidate will have a job
interview with somebody from the Start People
Cirque Team. During the interview we want to
learn more about you, your motivation and
skills. You can also ask questions about the
project and your job. If possible please
bring - up to date CV - passport
picture Teams per position The Start People
Cirque Team will select the Cirquadors and make
teams for every position. All candidates will be
informed before the end of September whether
they made it in the team.

7. Get Involved
Cirquador Kick Off Day A few days before the
premiere of Quidam in Brussels all Cirquadors
will be invited for the big Kick Off -
employees of Cirque Du Soleil will explain more
about the company, the production, rules and
expectations they have from Cirquadors. - Start
People will present all practical information and
hand out handy manuals for Cirquadors -
Cirquadors will receive their Cirquador Pass
clothing. Job training Most of the training
will be on the job on your first working day.
For some positions advance job training will be
organized. You will be informed about this in
the Contract Meeting. All training is
paid. meeting date will be communicated as soon
as possible

Kart Expo? The easiest way to get there is by
car. There is plenty of parking. There is also
public transportation from different locations in
Brussels. For the lager teams Start People can
help planning a car pool system.

8. Frequently asked questions
Do I have to speak English? The language most
spoken in Cirque is English. All instructions and
training will be given in English. As a Cirquador
a basic understanding of English is needed. Start
People will make sure all teams have Cirquedors
with a good level English who can be interpreters
when necessary. We will also provide you with
some basic English sentences and a list of Cirque
vocabulary. Who is my employer? Start People is
your employer. We are responsible for your
contract, payment and administration. You are
insured for injuries by our insurance
company. When will I know my working
schedule? In the beginning of September Start
People will communicate the basic work schedule.
This schedule is based on forecasts and is
subject to changes. Cirquadors must be flexible
and prepared for changes (extra shifts or
cancelations). Final schedules for the following
week will be communicated, however last minute
changes may occur. When will I be
payed? Cirquadors receive a weekly pay for
working hours from the week before.
