responsibility for the largest volume of flight
training and pilot certification activity within
the purview of the Federal Aviation
Administration

- Line Up and Wait Training Now Available
- On Sept. 30, 2010, the familiar ATC instruction
taxi in position and hold will become history.
Instead, expect to hear line up and wait when
ATC issues instruction for a pilot to taxi onto a
departure runway and wait for takeoff clearance.

- Runway Clearances Training Now Available
- Another procedure change that occurred on June
30, 2010, requires ATC to issue an explicit
clearance to aircraft crossing any runway
(active, inactive, and closed).

- Military Activity
- Penetrations of active restricted areas are on
the rise - costing the military valuable time and
resources when their operations must be suspended
for a wayward aircraft.

- WINGS New Phase
- The WINGS now includes specific recognition for
those sea-rated pilots who complete a Phase of
WINGS in a seaplane or amphibian. "significant
premium discounts" to members of the Seaplane
Pilots Association who complete a Phase of WINGS
in a seaplane.

- In response to a high number of aircraft
accidents and incidents involving flight training
aircraft, the Orlando FSDO along with the FAA
Safety Program Managers initiated the first
Flight Instructor Special Emphasis Program on
September 1, 1998. -
- This program has evolved into one of the most
important activities conducted by the FAA
Safety Team or FAASTeam in the North Florida FSDO
area of responsibility. This has become a model
for similar CFI programs across the country.
