• Volunteers are vital to the success of 4-H youth
  program. We believe that all youth regardless of
  their backgrounds can reach their fullest
  potential guided by competent and caring staff
  and volunteers.

• 4-H offer opportunities to volunteers.
• Volunteers are
• Needed to organize and lead a club
• Needed to serve as a project, activity and event
  leaders
• Needed as a long and short term leaders
• Needed as teachers and workshop coordinators and
  many more

• 4-H volunteers are
• Appointed, recommended or self appointed
• Are recruited, screened and trained by the
  organization they serve
• Guided and supported by the organization
• Leaders, instructors, mentors and coaches.

• In school and after school programs.
• Day, resident or weekend camp
• Community programs

• Qualifications
• Must Clearly understand youth
• Must be caring and responsible adult
• Must be willing to work with diverse audiences
• Must be committed for the responsibilities
  he/she volunteered
• Must work well with staff and 4-H families.

On becoming a 4-H volunteer

• Completed the necessary application forms
• Have a valid drivers license
• Received trainings and volunteer development
  programs
• Selected position description and specific
  responsibility
• Be conscientious, dependable and reliable to
  assigned position.

Parents as Volunteers

• Why is it important to involve
• parents or guardians as volunteers?
• Families are a vital part of their childs
  development
• Their cooperation and involvement is essential
• They can increase the efforts put by the leader
• They can make valuable contribution to the youth
  and the organization
• They gain an understanding of the 4-H programs
• Parents are eager to know about the activities of
  their children

How do we involve them?

• First they must feel that their help is needed
• They must be recognized for their skills and for
  what they can offer
• They must feel important
• They must be given specific responsibilities
• They must be asked. Most people are willing to
  help if they are asked
• Parents and guardians are vital and also major
  source of volunteerism

What is food has to do with this????

• Great Deal !!!!
• Plan some type of event like
• Tea Party
• Pot Luck
• Light dinner
• Have youth do some kind of Demo, Display or
  talent show
• Volunteer parents to help organize or donate
  materials for the event. Let them know what is
  happening in your center.
