• How can these officials claim they want games
  when they dont even bother calling me back?

• That assigner only calls when he needs to dump
  a last-minute game.

Open the lines of communication. A prompt
returned email would be appreciated.

• You dont want to work a particular game?

• I can work local games but I cant travel.
• No thanks.

How about no games? Does that suit your schedule
better?

• I called you right away with the report and you
  tell me Im off next weeks game? How is that
  fair?

• Why did I have to hear about the fight at
  Fridays game three days later and from a coach
  whos team wasnt even involved?

Assignors expect to be updated in a timely
manner. Officials have every right to expect to
be supported.

• No call, no show? Say hello to my scratch list.

• I take vacation time from work, miss my kids
  school play, drive 150 miles round trip to a
  cancelled gameand I dont even get the game fee?

No confirmations will result in game being
reassigned. A confirmed game will result in a pay
cheque

• I assigned you for a reason

• I was good enough to work this game last month
  but now Im not. Why exactly?

Assignors are required to plug the correct body
into the slot. Fulfill your assignments or turn
the game back to the assignor

• If you accept a game, I expect you to fulfill
  that assignment.

• I cant take that varsity game because my
  assignor wont let me out of my minor game.

Timing is everything. Games are scheduled and
sent out in plenty of time. Acceptance is
expected by return. Last moment turn backs will
drop you down the list. Acceptance of all
assignments will move you up the list.

• He gives the best games to his guys even
  though they couldnt officiate their way out of a
  paper bag. Its disgusting!

• Ugh! I feel like I have to take a shower any
  time I meet with a group of referees. Its
  disgusting!

It matters not if you brownnose, but it does
help to remain in contact with the assignor for
last minute assignments. Assignments are done to
put the correct official in the right spot

• What do you mean you dont have hotmail? How
  are you going to receive and accept your
  assignments?

• Hard drive? You mean like to the basket?

Bottom line, internet and email service is common
place today. If you dont have them, get them.

• Youre being paid to officiate. I expect you to
  act like a professional.

• Then I expect you to treat me like a
  professional.

Like any other business relationship, officiating
and assigning are businesses. If we treat each
other with respect and professionalism, everyone
is satisfied.
