  • Many of the fascist posters were about war.
  • Italian war posters of WWII are amongst the most
powerful, vitriolic and racist ever created.
Perhaps due to the nations ambivalence about its
alliance with Germany, artists were called on to
stir the population with rabid images. One of the
most notable was Gino Boccasiles image of a
Black American GI, resembling a gorilla,
clutching the Venus de Milo which he has marked
with a sale price of 2.

  • In Mussolinis early career he liked to show
himself as a master of everything. Often showing
himself with famous musicians or writers.
  • Mussolini usually put his face on posters and
tried to make it seem powerful and imposing by
    having it looking down.

"Italy finally has its empire"!
Typical for the early period of Fascism, this
special issue of the monthly Mussolinia glorifies
Mussolini and presents him as an expert in almost
all things. The journal opens with full-page
photographs of Mussolini posing with famous
composers and playing the violin, and describes
his involvement with musicians and musical
events.
