What does it look like
  • The loon is a midium sized water bird. Its head
    and neck are glossy black and green. It has black
    and white checker board coat. The loon has a
    long sturdy beak and a short tail and webbed
    feet. The loon weighs 7 to 9 lbs and measures to
    30in. The female and male look alike in the
    winter. They have smooth heads and a sleek body
    for swimming and diving.

  • The loon eats fish, pickerel, bass, frogs, small
    fish, minnows, crustaceans, cray fish, shrimp,
    leeches. Both parents raise babies. The loon is
    hatched in eggs. The parents (the mom) has two
    litters. The loon eats fish.

Were does it live
The loon lives in ponds, marshes and slow moving
water. Its home is sticks and reeds. It is
the state bird of Minnesota. The loon lives in
the northern wilderness in the summer, flys south
in the winter and flys north early summer.

How is it adapted
  • The loon uses their bill to catch fish. They
    can swim as far as a city block in less than a
    minute.

    beat most fish in a race. Their scientific name
    is Gavaia Immer At the end of the summer the
    loon molts its coat.
