Title: KCC Information Services

1
KCC Information Services
  • Student Login Accounts

2
The Idea
  • Students and Staff are now able to create login
    accounts on the student network.
  • This will enable
  • Your own private home drive (h).  No more
worries about others seeing or modifying (or
deleting!) your documents on the "S" drive.
  • You can save items on the desktop, such as
documents and web links, and they will appear on
    any computer you log onto.
  • You can access your home drive from the wireless
network, and from home via FTP.
  • Your Home drive will not be deleted every term,
unlike the "S" drive.  Your H drive will only be
deleted after you have not logged in/ not
registered for 6 months, so you don't have to
worry about missing a term and having things
    deleted.

Enabled Features Continued
  • Continued from Previous Page
  • You have 256MB of storage on your Home Drive.
The server will email you if it starts getting
    full!
  • You can connect to the wireless network with your
student login account username and password.
  • In the future, you will be required to have a
login account to use the wireless network.
  • Your username and password will be the same as
the ones you use to log into the KCC web site.
If you change your password on the website, it
will automatically be updated on the student
    network.

4
To Create an Account
  • Log on to the KCC Website

    the policy, press Submit.

7
To Create an Account
  • The confirmation page will appear. Notice that
your username appears at the top of the page, in
a different color. It should usually be the same
as your username you use to log into the
    website.
  • Your password is the same as the one you use to
    login to KCCs website

8

activate it.
9

FAQ
  • How can I access my H drive from the wireless
    network?
  • You can right click on the desktop, select new
and then shortcut. For the location, enter
    \\minerva.student.klamathcc.edu\homes\John_Doe
(replacing john_doe with your username!) and
press next. If you are prompted for a user name
and password, enter your account information. You
will need to have activated your account first,
    please see slide 9.
  • Tip this is especially handy if you need to
    print a document!
  • How can I access my H drive from off campus?
  • The files can be accessed by any FTP client using
the address of homes.klamathcc.edu, and your
username and password. For a web browser, you can
    connect by typing ftp//john_doe_at_homes.klamathcc.e
du (replacing with your user name). It will then
    prompt for your password.

FAQ
  • How long will my account stay active?
  • Your account and files will be deleted
automatically after you have not logged into the
student computers for 6 months. Please note that
you will need to login to a computer in the LRC
or labs at least once every 6 months to keep your
account active. Logging into the wireless will
    not keep your account active.
  • Why do you require my email address to create an
    account?
  • The server will email you an alert if your H
    drive is getting full.
  • What can I store on my H drive?
  • You may store anything that does not violate our
    acceptable use policy.

FAQ
  • How can I recover my files if they get deleted or
    changed?
  • If the file was changed or corrupted somehow, you
can right click on the file, select properties,
then the previous versions tab. Select a date
and time from the past, and click restore. If
the file was deleted, create a file with the
exact same filename. Then, follow the previous
steps. The length of time that it will allow you
to go back will vary. Please note that Klamath
Community College cannot guarantee that your
files are backed up. It is still your
responsibility to back up your own files. The
previous versions feature does not guard against
    equipment failure!
  • Does my Desktop "Travel" with me?
  • Yes, items saved to your desktop while logged in
will automatically be saved into the directory
H\desktop and appear on the desktop of any other
computer you log onto. This is handy for creating
your own "shortcuts" as well as links to web
pages you commonly use, or files.
