  • Reasons given for not marking the false teacher.
  • Is it scriptural and necessary to call names?

  • Paul Named Peter (Galatians 211)

4
Hes a Good Preacher, But He Doesnt Call Any
Names.
  • Is He a Better Preacher Than Jesus? ( Mt. 151
    166,12 232,13,14,15 Re. 26,14,15,20)
  • Than Paul? (2 Tim. 217-18 38)

5
Hes a Good Preacher, But He Doesnt Call Any
Names.
  • Than Nehemiah? (Neh. 614)
  • Than Moses? (Num. 161)
  • Is He More Sophisticated and Refined Than
    The Lord? (Num. 1624 2 Ti 316)

  • Collection...Do What I Told Gal. (1 Cor.
    161-2)

7
Is Marking Optional?
  • Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those
who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to
the teaching which you learned, and turn away
from them. For such men are slaves, not of our
Lord Christ but of their own appetites and by
their smooth and flattering speech they deceive
the hearts of the unsuspecting. (Ro. 1617-18)
Is This Not A Command of The Lord?

8
Why Some Refuse to Call Names
  • Friendship (1 Co. 46 Js. 4)
  • Kinship (Mt. 1034-37)
  • Greed (1 Ti. 63-5) Money is made from teaching
    error AND/OR compromising truth (2 Ti. 43-4 2
    Pe. 21-3)
  • Popularity/Acceptance (John 1242-43)

Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • Must Go To Him First - They Cite (Mt. 1815-17)
    Total Misapplication! Notice
  • if your brother sins against you, go and show
him his fault between you and him alone Lord,
how often will my brother sin against me and I
forgive him? (Mt. 1815,21) This passage has
nothing to do with the public teaching of error!

10
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • However, when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed
him to the face.. I said to Peter in front of
    everyone (Gal. 211,14)
  • The things you have learned, and have received,
and have heard, and have seen in me. These things
practice, and the peace of God will be with you
    (Ph. 49)

11
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False

  • Hes Not A False Teacher, He Only Has a False
    View On One Bible Subject.
  • So Did Hymeneus Philetus (2 Ti. 217-18)
  • M-D-R Error Damnable Heresy (Js. 210)
  • Little Leaven (Mt. 166,12 1 Co. 56)

    The Good Hymeneus Philetus did!

    (Ez. 320)

13
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • Promised Not To Teach His Error In Gospel
    Meeting Stay Focused
  • (Good Ole Boy Politics and Backroom Deals IN
    THE CHURCH!) (Ro. 1217?)

14
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • Exactly What False Teachers Want! (2 Pe. 21 Ga.
    24) Still teaches it Elsewhere and Privately
    (Ti. 111)
  • Doesnt he still Hold the doctrine? (Re.
    214-15)

  • Cowards make these kinds of Deals (Re. 218 2
    Co. 413

15
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • Shouldnt Criticize Others Because Weve All
Taught Error At One Time Or Another.
  • Yes, and if so we were wrong when we did! (1 Pe.
    411 2 Jn. 9)

16
Homer Hailey on False Prophets
  • "Along with the true there arose also false
prophets (see Duet. 1820-22 Jer.. 28). These
flourished from a very early periods in the
nation's history to the time of the close of the
Old Testament writings. The false prophets fall
into the two general classes, mercenary and
political some prophesied for money, others for
    political favor (see Mic. 35,11).

17
Homer Hailey on False Prophets
  • Oftentimes the false prophets were
nationalistic - that is, they defended the
national practices and rulers through ignorance
but whether false through ignorance or self-will,
they and their messages were no less severely
    denounced by the true prophets.

18
Homer Hailey on False Prophets
  •   Albert C. Knudson has well said  'An ignorant
conscientiousness may be quite as dangerous to a
community as deliberate wickedness' When opposed
by false prophets, the true prophets rise to
their greatest heights of zeal and fearlessness"
(Homer Hailey, A COMMENTARY ON THE MINOR
    PROPHETS, p. 18).

19
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • Must be willing to change, as did Apollos (Ax
    1825 1 Co. 35-6), and Peter (Ga. 211-14 2
    Pe. 315)
  • In matters of faith there must be unity. In
matter of conscience there must be liberty.

20
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • It is showing disrespect and dishonor to label a
    brother as a false teacher
  • He Earned the title (Ti. 310-11)
  • Scripture for Holding False teachers in High
    Esteem???

21

23
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • The Elders made the decision to have the man for
    a gospel meeting.
  • Exactly the same argument made by
    Institutionalists in the past!
  • Concerning Elders Correct publicly the ones who
are sinning, that the rest may also fear (1 Ti.
    520).

24
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • All have responsibility (1 Th. 521 1 Ti. 315
    Ju. 3 Ro. 125 Ep. 219-22 416).
  • Accommodative reading of 2 Jn. 10 If anyone
comes to you, and does not bring this doctrine,
an Elder may receive him in his house, and the
    Elders may support him.

25
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • He has little or no influence no. hes not
    teaching publicly any longer.
  • Books Literature still out, more being sold
    everyday!
  • Some Held the doctrine of Balaam in the first
century. He had been gone for hundreds of years
    (Re. 214)
  • Leavening effect - others strengthened to speak
    out.

26
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • Hes not divisive - WRONG, error always
    divides! (Ti. 111 Ga. 16-9 57)

27
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • Lets not bite and devour one another
  • Consider the WHOLE passage (Gal. 512-15)
  • Errorists (and the Devil) win when the truth
defenders are labeled as trouble-makers. We shall
take our stand with Elijah (1 Kg. 1817) - art
    thou he that troubleth Israel?

28
Reasons Given For Not Marking a Man As A False
Teacher
  • World does not view error as a great evil, not
    important enough to divide
  • Need greater love of truth (2 Th. 210-12 2 Jn.
9-11 Ph. 117) and LOST SOULS (Ro. 623 Mt.
    2530,41)

29

  • Reject (Ti. 310-11)
  • Do Not Receive (2 Jn. 9)
  • Mark and Avoid (Ro. 1617-18)
  • Expose (Ep. 511)
  • Stop Their Mouths (Ti. 19-11
