Role of NGOs

• As a NGO with consultative status, Zonta is
  expected to provide information
• expertise identifying and evaluating particular
  impact of social problems of women,
• human rights observances in their countries,
• opinion of Zonta members on issues such as
  disarmament, human rights, equality for women

• Informing and mobilizing public opinion
• Supporting resolutions, declarations and
  conventions
• Contributing to special programmes
• Contributing to development assistance projects

Consultative Status with ECOSOC

• ECOSOC co-ordinates the economic and social work
  of the United Nations and its specialized
  agencies
• ECOSOC makes recommendations and initiatives
  projects relating to development, human rights,
  status of women, natural resources, world trade,
  etc.

Consultative Status with ECOSOC

• Category II consultative status is granted to
  organizations which have a special competence
  in, and are concerned specifically with only a
  few of the fields of activity covered by the
  Council, and which are known internationally
  within the fields for which they seek
  consultative status.

  Council and its committees and other U.N.

  positions orally before the Council
