JCC Review

• The Sabbaticals and the JCCs have carried out a
  review of the JCC and site committee structures
  which currently operate. The following discussion
  points have come out of discussions with JCC
  Presidents and their committees.

The Recommendations - Furthering JCC Support

• Sabbatical Officers should be invited to attend
  site committee meeting as required by the
  committee.
•  
• Officers meeting (held every third week) will
  provide an opportunity for committee Presidents
  to speak with the Sabbaticals and other part-time
  officers regarding Union issues.
• The current Presidents meeting will cease to
  exist although all Presidents are encouraged to
  make appointments to see any Kent Union Officer
  when deemed necessary.  
• Preparation for Freshers will include involvement
  of the committees and they will play an integral
  role at Freshers Fair alongside societies and
  other groups.

• Monthly meetings will be established between the
  entertainments officers, VP student activities
  and the relevant staff members from Kent Union
  License trade department..
•  
• The Representation and Democracy Manager will
  co-ordinate a tailored induction and training
  system for new committee members.
• Have logos designed for the committees which are
  in keeping with the Kent Union corporate identify
  so students know that they are part of the Union
  structure.
• The Representation and Democracy Manager will be
  responsible for administering the committees
  budgets

The Recommendations- JCC Structure

• The positions on each committee should be
  consistent and follow the format
• President
• Secretary (responsible for the budget)
• Campaigns
• Entertainments
• RAG
• Sports
• General members
• Following the removal of the Vice President
  position Committee Presidents will be the only
  voting member of Union Council from the
  committee however all committee members should
  be encouraged to attend and hold the relevant
  Presidents to account.

• Committees might want to consider establishing
  sub- committees either for particular times of
  year or as a constant resource, e.g. a campaigns
  committee, entertainments committee etc.
• Committees must have meetings in open spaces
  which are accessible to all students and are
  publicised at least 3 days in advance. 
• As part of Kent Unions Marketing Strategy we
  will endeavour to find further publicity avenues
  fro the committees to use.
• In areas where appropriate we should recruit
  corridor reps or area reps to help bridge gaps
  where representation currently lacks
• Remove the title JCC and just call the groups
  committees or site committees, in order to ensure
  that all committees have the same title and
  students understand what the groups do.
