Title: ATEX Enclosure

ATEX Enclosure
  • Examples

2
Class I, Div. 1 Enclosure Installation
ATEX Enclosure Examples
  • These are explosion-proof enclosures that require
sealing fittings per NEC/CEC for junction boxes,
pull boxes, terminal boxes, or any arcing or
sparking devices, such as a transformer, circuit
    breaker, PLC, IS barrier,

ATEX Enclosure Examples
Class I, Div. 2 Enclosure Installation
  • Enclosure Material
  • Sheet steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Non-metallic materials
  • Sealing fittings
  • On terminal boxes with terminal blocks ONLY, the
    NEC/CEC permits installation WITHOUT sealing
    fittings (see picture).
  • Any other arcing or sparking devices WOULD
    require sealing fittings.
  • In this example, the brass TMCX cable glands
(sealing fittings) are required because of small
transmitters (arcing devices) inside the box.

Installation

  • Sealing fittings
  • For terminal boxes with terminal blocks ONLY, the
    NEC/CEC permits installation WITHOUT sealing
    fittings.
  • Any other arcing or sparking devices WOULD
    require sealing fittings.
  • The operators and potentiometers shown are Zone 1
2 rated, due to sealed contact blocks. As a
general rule, cable glands are installed for
    enclosure entries.

ATEX Enclosure Examples
EEx d IIB (Flameproof) Enclosures for Zone 1
2, 21, 22
  • Enclosure materials
  • Aluminum
  • Iron
  • Look very similar to our ejbs
  • Thinner wall thicknesses
  • Priced at a lower price point
  • Testing
  • IEC testing requires EVERY enclosure to be tested
at 1.5 times pressure testing while NEC enclosure
testing is RANDOM and tested to 4 times
    pressure/hydro testing requirements.
  • Product offering
  • Group IIB gases (equal to NEC groups C, D).
  • Our NEC Group B gas applications are not covered
    with this offering.
  • Sealing fittings or cable glands
  • Required.
  • Drilled and tapped entries are NOT permitted in
    the field.
  • Have to be done at the factory
  • ATEX assembler.
