4th Annual Chili Cook Off
No matter when the Chili Cook-off is held, you
can be sure that both the weather and the Chili
will be hot hot hot! Rumors of a cool front
blowing over were just thatrumors. But the
teams came prepared and there wasnt a booth in
sight that wasnt covered by a snazzy
canopy! Eighteen teams participated in the 4th
annual TX CTAM Chili Cook Off in Austin, TX,
along with many individual walk-ins who filled
the venue. All had a wonderful time fraternizing
with fellow industry cohorts over fiery chili and
Texas beverages, all to benefit the Meals on
Wheels of Austin. To quote one attendee, Its
been a long time since I have seen that many
industry professionals having that much fun. The
large grassy area provided ample space for all of
the booths and extra activities. There were
stick horse races sponsored by TV Guide and a
Home Run Derby from Fox. Scripps sponsored a
networking area with beverage stations from DIY,
Fine Living, HGTV, the Food Network and
GAC. Certain Chili Cook Off traditions occur year
after year Smack talking, fiercely guarded
recipes and top-secret Booth themes make the
competition all the more exciting. Some team
captains would sacrifice their little finger
before theyd spill the beans on their secret
Chili ingredients! And some teams risked not
being named on the pre-printed ballots rather
than tell their booth theme too soon. A new award
was introduced this year for the Best Individual
Costume at the Chili Cook-off. The award was
won by the loudest screams and applause from the
audience! The showmanship of the contestants and
the hootin and hollerin of the crowd made this
a fun award that will be looked forward to next
year. Many thanks to the esteemed judges who
graciously donated their time Clay Collier
(CTAM VP Research), Dan OBrian (Gotuit CEO and
25yr cable veteran) and Dan Pruett (President
CEO of Meals on Wheels Austin). Judges

DJ, sponsored by MTV Networks, kept the music
pumping and the chili simmering. CTAM TX
presented a check to the Meals on Wheels of
Austin for 3,000. CTAM TX is thrilled with
the success of this event made possible by the
teams of programmers and operators that put their
heart and soul into cooking and competing with
outrageous booths.

Holiday Mixer
This year, WICT and CTAM decided to change things
up a bit and hosted a "Holiday mixer." The Iron
Cactus Restaurant in downtown Dallas was the home
for this year's festivities, and the place did
not disappoint! Attendees were able to mix and
mingle with great food and company, and the night
was capped off by our annual raffle of fabulous
prizes donated from the various networks.
Nothing says Holiday party like a photo-button
booth, so we'd be remiss if we didn't pay homage
to Bruce Levinson and NBC Universal for
generously sponsoring this year's booth. Our
event was once again packed with people, so we
thank all of our CTAM TX and WICT members for
their generous support for this great cause.
Thanks to the hard work and participation of our
committee members, volunteers, and sponsors.
CTAM and WICT members brought hundreds of coats
and blankets - and raised 1000 this year, which
was donated - as always - to our friends at the
Austin Street Shelter for the homeless.
