2My kingdom is not from this world. Jesus in John
1836
3All versions of the kingdom of the world acquire
and exercise power over others, the kingdom of
God, incarnated and modeled in the person of
Jesus Christ, advances only by exercising power
under others. It expands by manifesting the
power of self-sacrificial, Calvary-like
love Geoffrey Boyd
4It is a great irony that the one who so failed
the expectations of his people came to be known
to all history as a king so much so that a form
of the word became his last name. Christ, or
Christos in Greek, translates the Hebrew word
Messiah, which means anointed and refers to the
ancient manner of coronating kings. Now, all of
us who call ourselves Christ-ians carry an echo
of the word that so baffled the people of Jesus
day. I wonder, Do we understand the kingdom of
God any better? Philip Yancey
5When God flexes his omnipotent muscles it doesnt
look like Rambo or Terminator. Rather it looks
like Jesus bleeding and dying on a cross for our
sin. Sargon Singh
6So rather than fight and win, Jesus chose to
lose. Or better, he chose to lose by
kingdom-of-the-world standards so that he might
win by kingdom-of-God standards. His trust was
not in the power of the sword but in the power of
radical, self-sacrificial love, and so he let
himself be crucified. Gregory Boyd
7The hope of the world lies in a kingdom that is
not of this world. Gregory Boyd
