Title: Developing a CPD Portfolio

1
Developing a CPD Portfolio
2
The Professional Development Portfolio
  • The maintenance of a CPD Portfolio is good
practice for all teachers regardless of their
experience or aspirations. It can offer a
    systematic method for recording professional
analysis and development throughout a teachers
    career.
  • SEED Professional
    Review and Development 2002
  • The maintenance of a professional development
portfolio is now a requirement for meeting the
Standard for Full Registration, the Standard for
Chartered Teacher and the Standard for Headship.
It is also a requirement for entry into the
Chartered Teacher programme. It can be used to
record goals, growth and achievement. More
importantly it can be used to record or log
reflections on development activities and assess
the impact of such activities on your day- to-day
    practice.

The Professional Development Portfolio
  • A CPD Portfolio is the personal property of
    individual teachers and can
  • be organised in any way. It is basically a log
    or diary of continuing
  • professional development including reflections
    and reports of changes
  • in practice which occur.
  • Possible Starting Points
  • an empty folder!
  • self-evaluation
  • professional review

Professional Review and Development
  • All teachers must undertake an annual
    Professional Review with their line
  • manager. During this meeting a CPD plan should be
    agreed which should
  • indicate development objectives and activities.
    All development opportunities
  • should be recorded in the CPD record, including
    those arising during the course
  • of a year which were not included in the
    originally agreed CPD plan.
  • The CPD plan and record make up the CPD Profile
    which must be maintained
  • for the current year and two previous years. This
profile may form the basis of
  • your portfolio.
