What is a Watershed Management Plan?

• A watershed plan is a strategy that provides
  assessment and management information for a
  geographically defined watershed, including the
  analyses, actions, participants and resources
  related to developing and implementing the plan.
• Characteristics
• It is a process, and we are at the beginning.
• A new way to manage.
• An opportunity.
• Hard, but worthwhile, work.

• A watershed approach addresses the problems in a
  holistic manner and the stakeholders are actively
  involved in selecting and using the strategies.
• Keys to success
• Watershed is geographically defined.
• Stakeholders are involved community members.
• Flexible process and living (amendable) document.
• Sets clear and achievable goals.

Who should participate in watershed management?

• To be successful, all stakeholders must be
  involved and vocal.
• A stakeholder is someone holding an interest in
  the watershed. This includes
• Government (federal, state and local agencies)
• Businesses (industry, farms, developers)
• Recreation Users (anglers, hikers, horse riders,
  etc)
• Community Groups (churches, envi. orgs., schools)
• and concerned citizens like You.
