Project Summary
The young reps project will train young members
to engage other people about why they should join
the union.
This will be supported by a strong element of
mentoring of young people, developing their
involvement in the Union through their workplace
union committee and Young Members Network (YMN).

• Provide a network of young members to recruit
  young people to the union through schools,
  colleges and apprentice inductions

Project Outline

• Direct Mail all young members with young members

  members to attend a seminar
• Ongoing mentoring support in the workplace by

• Regional young members network with quarterly
  regional young members events (4 mtgs per year)

Young Rep Mentoring

• The main equality reps project will begin in
  January 2008 providing ongoing resources and
  support for developing Activists
• Best practice guide in negotiating for
  recognition for young reps, the role and
  responsibilities of a young rep, accreditation
  and facility time
• Young reps education programme
• Young Reps card launch event October 2008
• The Unions administration will be updated to
  ensure officers and staff understand the role of
  the young rep

Organising apprentices, schools and colleges

• Objective 2
• Provide a network of young members to recruit
  young people to the union through schools,
  colleges and apprentice inductions

Apprentices, Schools and Colleges

• The Union is invited to attend schools, colleges
  and apprentice inductions to talk about the Union
  
• Part of the role of a young rep will be to
  deliver presentations to young people when
  requested by the regional secretary
