Title: Roatan Powerpoint
1Paul and Sallie's Roatan Scuba Trip October 1999

2Roatan is here
Roatan is a tiny island thirty miles north of
Honduras. It is one of the Bay Islands.
3Fantasy Island Resort is here
Roatan boasts the second largest barrier reef in
the world. Diving on the south side of the island
is much calmer than the north. The water
temperature was consistently warm 80-85 degrees.
4Fantasy Island Beach Resort
This is where we stayed. Its also a dive resort.
The water here was filtered we learned to
appreciate that later in the week.
5Room 214 Tres Parrots Each room had a nice,
clean bedroom with fridge, and a large bath. Our
room had a deck facing the ocean. The AC was loud
enough to drown out the roosters, whose crowing
seemed to be continual throughout the day and
night. We all joked about making them disappear!
6Sunset at the Fantasy (when there was one) could
not have been prettier.
It rained every day we were in Roatan. Because
we were usually underwater anyway, the rain
didnt bother us much.
7The birthday girl, Sallie, with beau, Paul.
We celebrated my birthday (I wont say which one)
while in Roatan. Thanks to Amy and Leslies
creative talents with table napkins, I had a
special hat to wear for the occasion!
8The view from our dining table
The tasty resort food included seafood, barbeque,
and a soup du jour. Of course, the
Strawberry-Coladas werent bad either.
9The flags of Fantasy Island
We arent sure just which flags they were, but
they were impressive.
10Our typical Roatan sky...
The rain and clouds came and went daily. Under
water, it just didnt matter what was going on
above. The diving was fabulous! The corals were
incredibly numerous and colorful as were the
fish and crustaceans. (I didnt see any fish
bigger than me.)
11Our frequently-used rain walkway
All buildings in the resort, including the gift
shop and dive shop, were connected with this rain
tunnel.
12Professional beach bum
I was able to catch this one doing what he does
best just bumming around.
13Twenty minutes of sunshine,
before the clouds rolled in from behind.
Needless to say, no one envied our tans when we
returned home.
14Our Sunset Cruise (also on my birthday)
The sunset sky was beautiful, clouds and all! We
joined the Alabama group and the Sisters for a
scenic evening on the boat.
15Paul and me with the wild and wacky
sister-divers on the sunset cruise -- before the
rum punch
Besides being expert divers and air-ring blowers
for the dive videos, Amy and Leslie really know
how to have fun. Amy is from North Carolina and
Leslie is from California..
16Me with the Alabama sunset cruisers-- after the
rum punch (see the difference?)
Sallie, Steve, Carlyn, Richard, Gloria, Jeff, and
Cecilia
17Dive boat buddies from Alabama
Brenda and her husband, Alan, got their Open
Water certification on this trip.
18Dive boat buddies from Alabama
Dr. Jeff and his wife, Cecilia. We discovered
that Jeff was a gastroenterologist as we ate at
Tres Flores Restaurant. This turned out to be an
appropriate thing to learn there (as Paul and I
later suffered the revenge)

20Dive boat buddies from Alabama
Dr. Alan and Richard Richard was the trip lead
for the Alabama group. As a PADI dive
instructor, he verified my Deep Dive to complete
my Advanced Diver certification
21Look out! Pool shark posed to strike!
22Our favorite bartender...
just before he left for vacation, in case youre
wondering why he looks so happy.
23Fellow divers and dinner buddies from
Montgomery, Alabama
Brenda, Alan, Richard, Jeff (Cecilia is hidden),
Gloria, Carlyn, and Steve try to relax with a few
margaritas at Tres Flores Restaurant while
Hurricane Katrina heads our way. Ask Paul to
spin the yarn of this stormy, yet entertaining
field trip off the resort!
24Two-year old, Carlito (Tres Flores Restaurant)
got to see himself in this photo, perhaps for the
first time. (Actually, I just liked this photo
so much it ended up here!)
