education institutions of the European Union and

Training - Participant countries are the Member States of
the European Union and the following 18 countries
of Latin America Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil,
Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El
Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua,
Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

16Alßan is a high level scholarship programme
specifically addressed to Latin America. It is
expected that around 3900 Latin American students
and professionals will benefit from these
scholarships, in the European Union, until 2010.
Alßan will enable Latin American students and
professionals, future academics and
decision-makers, to benefit from high level
education in the European Union. The periods of
education and training may range from 6 months to
3 years depending on the type of project and the
level envisaged.

19ERASMUS MUNDUS 2009-2013 What will be new?
The main novelties of the programme proposal are
- More opportunities and variety in the
institutional co-operation modalities between
European and third-country universities and in
the individual mobility scheme (Key words
developing human resources, transfer of know-how,
sustainable development)
- Extension of Erasmus Mundus to doctoral studies
and, partially, to the undergraduate level
- Stronger financial support for European students
through the offer of more attractive scholarships.
