• Series of flattened sacs
• Process and packages proteins, for export from
  the cell (UPS of the cell)

• Aid cell movement and muscle contraction

• Strands from the nucleus cell membrane
• Aid in chromosome movement during mitosis

Cilia and Flagella

• Hairlike projections from the plasma membrane
• Used in movement or propulsion
• Cilia when the projections are short and
  numerous
• found on many unicellular organisms
• cells lining your respiratory tract trap
  debris from the air we breath, sweep up the
  throat and then we swallow it

• Flagella when projections are long and few
• may be only one, flagellum present as the
  sperm cells
• propel by whipping back and forth
• can swiftly propel unicellular organisms

Composition of cilia and flagella
Both composed of nine pairs of microtubules
arranged around a central pair.
