• 4,000 cu.m Refrigerated Pressurised Sphere
• Delivery in by ship and out by dedicated road
  tanker
• Planned 3 ships a year (2000 tonnes each)
• 7 trucks a week (18 tonnes each)
• Designated truck route along Shell parade to
  Princes Hwy

• Butadiene to be refrigerated and stored between 0
  to 10 oC for quality reasons
• Full Pressure Sphere (350 kPag) even though will
  normally be kept at below 75 kPag
• Dedicated new pipeline from ship to sphere
• Dedicated truck loading system with vapour return
  to sphere

Safety Features

• Full Pressure Sphere ie will be able to contain
  Butadiene at normal atmospheric temperature with
  no cooling
• Gas detectors at sphere and truckfill will
  shutdown system and automatically call CFA (as
  for VCM)
• Internal safety valve which automatically shuts
  offs if pipe ruptured

Safety Features

• Sphere cooling water deluge at 10lts/m3/min
• Separate containment area around sphere (bund)
  and well spaced from other spheres
• Multiple emergency pressure relief valves with
  leak prevention device (bursting disk) underneath

Drainage

• Sphere will have separate containment area (bund)
  sized to contain full volume of sphere plus
  allowance for rainwater and firewater
• Drain valve from sphere bund kept closed and
  locked when not in use
• Rainwater will be kept in bund until tested
• Site drainage runs through an oil interceptor
  before discharge to bay via normally closed and
  locked valve
• If water is contaminated it is collected and sent
  offsite to appropriate disposal facility

Emissions

• Under normal operation no emissions as system
  fully contained ie pressurised sphere, vapour
  return from truck, dedicated pipework
• Combustor provided to degas dockline after
  shipping (3 times/yr) and for maintenance
  activities (as required)

Combustor Safety Features

• All vapour going to combustor for treatment will
  have no/low oxygen ie unable to burn until mixed
  with air
• Oxygen sensors which shutdown combustor if high
  oxygen level
• Flame and detonation arrestors to prevent flame
  back to equipment/sphere
• High temperature shutdown

Emissions

• Combustor will only operate when required (approx
  3 times/yr)
• The combustor will have a minimum destruction
  efficiency of 99.6
• Maximum predicted Ground Level Concentration
  (GLC) will be 0.01 mg/m3 (5ppb) versus EPA
  maximum GLC of 0.073 mg/m3 (33ppb)
• Background level is low from available data
