THE APPROACH

Mediterranean Free Flight Programme

• MFF is a pre-operational Programme conducted by a
  consortium of six service providers and
  EUROCONTROL which is part funded by the European
  Commission.
• ESARR 4 is the principal Safety Regulatory
  Requirement for MFF

MFF Objectives

• The MFF objectives are
• Evaluate the integration, interoperability and
  safe use of ADS-B technologies and applications
  suitable in a future Mediterranean ATM scenario
• To verify appropriate new operating procedures
  for ATM staff and aircrew in
• free flight scenarios
• transition between FFAS and any other airspace
• To address standardisation and further maturation
  of relevant ADS-B technologies and applications
  both in ground systems and avionics
• To define guidelines to implement free flight
  operations in suitable parts of the airspace.

• Initial contact has been established with SRU
• SRC 14 first contact with SRC
• Formal submission of the first safety
  deliverables will follow
• A regulatory baseline (RAD-MFF) will be required
  if possible by end of 2002

• Mismatch between national legislation and ESARR
• How to make best use of Real Time simulations
• Making the best use of results from other projects
