Coordinators NOTES The most important job that
we in Student Nutrition have is to ensure that
all students are provided with healthy and good
tasting meals and snacks. Our vision Healthy
Children, Ready to Learn will only be realized
if students eat the meals that are prepared for
them.

Nutrition advisory councils It is important that
students feel they have a voice in the nutrition
program at their school. For that reason,
advisory councils will be organized at each
school. As Councils are added to each school,
information will be posted on the SNP
Website. If you are interested in becoming part
of a Nutrition Advisory Council, please contact
Mary Ann McCann at 758-5214 or 758-5288.

  • Haccp
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point
  • HACCP is a food safety program that focuses on
food. This program differs from other food
safety programs where the focus is on personal
hygiene and sanitation. HACCPs guidelines have
a clear emphasis on food and its flow throughout
the school nutrition operation. While personal
hygiene and sanitation are vital to food safety,
they are considered requirements for a HACCP
    program.
  • The goal of HACCP is to prevent food safety
problems from happening and controlling hazards
that can contaminate food as it moves through a
school. Our district is being proactive and not
reactive in matters of food safety.
  • Our school district follows HACCP guidelines as
mandated by the Child Nutrition and WIC
Reauthorization Act of 2004 stating that all
    schools must have the following
  • A HACCP Plan
  • On-going training for staff in food safety
  • On-going documentation of the handling of food
products from the time of purchase to the service
    of the student.

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Hunger does
not end when school lets out for summer vacation
and millions of children across America would
lose access to breakfast and lunch meals.
However the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)
fills the gap during the summer providing
nutritious meals for those children who might
otherwise go without proper nutrition. Good
nutrition is essential for effective learning
every day, all year long. Just as learning does
not end when school lets out, neither does
hunger. Children who arent hungry learn better,
act better and feel better. The SFSP provides
free meals to children through age 18 when school
is not in session. People over age 18 who are in
enrolled in school programs for persons with
disabilities may also participate in the SFSP. A
list of SFSP sites will be published by May 1,
2007. Please visit this site again to find the
site nearest you.
