2Holmes Tree Project         This is the sixth
year that the students at Holmes Jr. High have
planted trees on the Holmes Campus. The first
year, the trees were planted to provide shade
along the rooms with windows that face west. In
the following years, the trees have been planted
along the track to provide a windbreak and also a
boundary between the school and the houses.Â
Since the project began, 80 trees have been
planted. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â On April 27, over 60 students
helped plant the pine, spruce and maple trees.Â
The students measured and marked the location for
the new trees. They dug the holes and planted
the trees. The students spread newspapers and
covered the newspapers with wood chips to
surround the new trees. Lastly, they pounded in
fence posts for lawn mower protection. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
The Holmes Tree Project would not be possible
without the generous support from the followingÂ
Green Scene, Jordan's Nursery, Cedar Falls
Community Credit Union, Holmes Student Council,
P.A.T.T. (Parent Support Group at Holmes),
Wright Tree Service, Scott Karen Vermillion,
and Arlan Eric Andersen.          The Holmes
Tree Committee consists of Chairman Sue Green,
Dave Welter, Lynn Argotsinger, Wade Olson and Jim
Duff.
